"Most folks are immediately intrigued by the sculpture and think that it is made from three separate pieces wood that have been glued together," Chris said. "They are blown away when they learn that the sculpture started as one 600-pound block of wood that was turned, carved and finished all as one piece — no gluing!"
Chris was alerted to the existence of the tree that this red maple burl bowl was made from when a neighbor's son said he had seen it on a nearby street. He said it "looked like someone had stuck watermelons all over it."
This Red Sox insignia baseball cap is in the permanent collection of the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts (a suburb of Boston). The cap was first unveiled at a museum show entitled "Across the Grain: Turned and Carved Wood," April 10 through September 22, 2013.
When Chris called one of his "burl fairies" in Sweet Home, Oregon, he had a special request: "I want the biggest burl you can get your hands on."
