The geometric pattern is based on the segmented turning concept developed by Lincoln Seitzman and popularized with mind-blowing designs by David Nittmann. In order to achieve the pattern, the 300-pound red maple blank was turned while the wood was still green. The indexing, or intersecting lines formed to create the pattern, has more than 14,000 segments. "I made the rim to look like a weaved Hopi Indian basket using pyro-engraving then used archive quality, non-bleeding ink for colorization of the bowl."
